Mike Shaw Subaru

At Subaru, protecting the environment is just as important as protecting their passengers. That's why they build fuel-efficient vehicles in ecologically-minded plants. Together, with earth-friendly partners such as 99.5 The Mountain, they are dedicated to preserving our planet. It's an integral part of their philosophy. It's what makes a Subaru, a Subaru.  Consider this: When you carry out your trash at home on the next collection day, you'll be sending more trash to landfills than the entire Subaru manufacturing plant in Lafayette, Indiana (SIA). The Subaru plant was the first auto assembly plant to achieve zero landfill status - nothing from its manufacturing efforts goes into a landfill. It's all reused and recycled.

Tree by Tree - The Mile High Million

Tree by Tree – The Mile High Million is Mayor Hickenlooper’s initiative to inspire individuals, neighborhood associations, schools, nonprofits and businesses to nurture and plant one million trees in the Denver metropolitan area by 2025. As a highly participatory component of Greenprint Denver, the initiative has already led to projects with more than 40 cities, park districts, schools and community organizations. The goal is to engage and motivate individuals to become life-long stewards of our natural environment. The initiative facilitates volunteer tree planting projects, youth education programs, community forester training and public outreach to educate citizens about the importance of trees and a healthy urban forest.

Help cool your neighborhood by planting a tree, then make your new tree planting count by registering it online HERE.
For more detailed information on the program, CLICK HERE. This program is possible through the help and support of greenprint denver and TreeBank.

Denver Botanic Gardens

Rooted a mile high, Denver Botanic Gardens has been a favorite Denver destination for over 55 years. Art and science unite in the Gardens' spectacular 23-acre urban oasis, offering an unforgettable artistic garden experience, as well as a living laboratory for education and acclaimed conservation and research programs. Sustainability is the main focus of the Gardens as it employs resources and practices that honor its relationship to the natural world. The Gardens opened the city’s first publicly accessible green roof on top of the Gardens’ Gift Shop in November. It is the first green roof on a city-owned building in Denver, and is a highly visible demonstration of the many benefits of green roofs for communities and building owners.

Additional sites at Denver Botanic Gardens at Chatfield, a 750-acre native plant refuge in Littleton; Mount Goliath, a high altitude trail and interpretive site filled with alpine wildflowers on the Mount Evans Scenic Byway; and Centennial Gardens, a five-acre formal garden in downtown Denver, extend our rich horticultural offerings throughout the Front Range.

There are lots of reasons to buy a Built Green® Home. The environment is only one of them. Built Green Colorado is a program of the Home Builders Association of Metro Denver that encourages homebuilders, suppliers and manufacturers to use technologies, products and practices to build homes that are better built and better for the environment.

To achieve the Built Green distinction, homes must be designed and constructed based on a rigorous checklist of more than 200 features in 22 categories covering energy efficiency, materials, health and safety, and resource conservation. To learn more or to locate a Built Green builder, visit builtgreen.org

Built Green is funded by dues and fees of more than 200 Colorado builder members, 50 Sponsor members and the substantial financial support of the Industry Leaders: James Hardie Building Products, Rheem Company, Boise Building Solutions, Trex Decking, Whirlpool Corporation, Johns Manville, and Grace Construction Products.

Built Green is a program of the Home Builders Association of Metro Denver supported by the Governor's Energy Office.
