...the 60 Minutes story, and the rest of the story...
Here's the audit from the Colorado Dept of Public Health and Environment:

The next chapter: an e-mail I received from a listener:
Robbie, I have met you several times at events we have both attended. I know that you have worked with Executive Recycling in the past. I think your message and promoting the green movement is commendable. I wanted to make you aware of a listing in the comments section on a 9news story that ran yesterday related to Executive. jpuckettban wrote: Dear Thanh Truong of Channel 9 News: I am Jim Puckett, Executive Director of the non-profit Basel Action Network (BAN). I observe with some amusement and some surprise that Channel 9 nor any other news outlet in Denver has bothered to contact the BAN to determine the truth of the matter with respect to the veracity of Executive Recycling's statements asserting that they were wronged in the 60 Minutes story aired a week ago. Rather you are simply taking the word/smokescreens of Executive Recycling and broadcasting them as having some validity. BAN conducted much of the research made available to 60 minutes. BAN must report the following information of which we are aware: 1. BAN has tracked not one (the one used as an example by 60 Minutes) but 21 containers photographed at ER's facility to developing countries, including Peru, Vietnam, China, Hong Kong, Ivory Coast, and Malaysia. Of these, 10 received the attention of the authorities in the importing countries after BAN notified them. Of those 10, eight were declared illegal shipments by the government authorities. Seven of these shipments were returned to the United States. Isn't it interesting how ER fails to note that these other exports (not reported on 60 minutes) took place in the time frame between November 2007 to March 2008. It is very clear that export which resulted in illegal trafficking of hazardous waste under international and national laws, was very much a part of the business model of ER. As the shipments were returned it is obvious that ER had plenty of time to know that their exports were not acceptable to the importing countries concerned. 2. Executive Recycling (ER) has exported, or has caused cathode ray tubes coming from its facility to be exported in violation of the CRT Rule (Part of the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act. For those that wish to be assured of responsible recycling please visit e-Stewards.org, yours, Jim Puckett, BAN Just wanted to make you more aware of the full story. Feel free to contact me.

How's the air quality in your home?
Take the quiz:
|
3 gas and pollution savers
From the Care2 website:

1. Obey the speed limit. Your fuel economy is lowered by about 10 percent when you drive 75 mph instead of 65 mph. Driving over the speed limit can also increase tailpipe pollution in many vehicles.
2. Unload. Even 100 pounds of extra weight in your car can reduce fuel economy by 1 percent. Take a minute to unload your trunk or back seat.
3. Combine trips. Once your engine and catalysts are warmed up, they create much less pollution.
